Turn Back the Hands of Time and Revitalize Your Outlook!
No matter how careful you are about daily skin care, over time, everybody’s skin begins to show signs of aging. Forehead wrinkles, eye lines and crow’s feet, laugh lines around the mouth, and sagging jowls are some of the more common indications that the aging process is taking its toll. A face lift, or rhytidectomy, is often an excellent option for revitalizing the appearance of the face—smoothing fine lines and wrinkles and giving a more youthful overall appearance. A face lift is a surgical procedure which smooths and tightens sagging or wrinkled areas of the face, firming up loose skin, reducing fatty deposits, and minimizing the appearance of wrinkles.
If you’re concerned that your face is showing the signs of age, a consultation with Dr. Stephen M. Becker, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon in our comfortable Alcoa, Tennessee office will help you decide if a face lift procedure is right for you. Dr. Becker is a skilled and experienced cosmetic surgeon, and is dedicated to providing a high level of patient care with a focus on developing customized treatment plans. His expertise can guide you towards an effective face lift treatment plan, including objectives such as:
- Tightening loose skin around the neckline and jowls
- Decreasing the effects of mid-facial sagging
- Reducing the effects of deep creases and wrinkles
- Revitalizing the area around the eyes
- Contouring fatty deposits into a pleasing aesthetic effect
If moisturizers and toners simply aren’t doing the trick, a face lift could be just the thing you need to put some of the visible effects of aging behind you, moving forward with a vibrant, more youthful appearance.
What is Involved in a Face Lift?
A face lift is significant surgery, and is typically administered under general anesthesia. Once you’re comfortably asleep, the surgeon will make an incision near the hairline around the temples. Depending on your individual treatment plan, the incision may extend around the ear to a point behind the jaw. This allows the surgeon to sculpt and contour fatty deposits under the skin into a pleasing aesthetic shape, and address any muscles that may also require tightening in accordance with your treatment goals. The skin of the face, jowls, and neck is also smoothed and re-positioned across the facial structure, trimming away any unwanted tissue, leaving a younger, revitalized appearance. Depending on your treatment plan, you can expect the surgery to take between two and four hours.
Following your procedure, your face will be covered with a set of bandages, and, depending on the treatment plan, drainage tubes may have been placed behind the ears to help relieve the pressure from the collection of blood and fluid. Although the discomfort should be minimal at this point, you will be unable to drive, and should have a friend or relative on hand to help you return home. Plan to keep your activities fairly light for the next two weeks as the face heals and the effects of residual pain and swelling are gradually reduced. Any stitches should be removed within a week following surgery, and most patients are able to return to work after approximately two weeks. By that time, the effects of the face lift procedure should be evident, allowing you to return to your normal daily activities with a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.
